Making your bed
Making your bed or me making my bed – some people must do it, some people never do it, some people do it before they hop into bed, some people change sheets every day – whatever you do – you have to sleep in it – so enjoy!
Surveys have suggested that people who have a nicely made bed may sleep longer. I probably believe this would be the case if you like your bed made and more importantly made in a particular way. However, if you are not too fussy about making it – you probably don’t care about sleeping in a mess!
If you make your bed you probably also have a neat bedroom and if you don’t make your bed you probably have a messy room. However, of course there are people who feel better about a nice bed because the bedroom is messy!
I think it does depend how you are brought up. If making your bed and being tidy was how you grew up – you are more likely to continue with this habit.
When staying with others I do think it is manners to make your bed. Perfection is not necessary – just a reasonable amount of effort. This is just like when you stay with others it is manners to be more particular about many things: how the kids behave, shoes, privacy etc.
So if you want your kids to be tidy, organised, beings, possibly start the chore early! Then, when they are older, the saying: “If you make your bed – lie in it” will make more sense! Hence, we all make choices – so suffer the consequences!
