Can I sleep in your bed please
In some families kids regularly sleep in the same room or bed as adults for cultural reasons and/or space reasons. I believe kids need to have their own space and bed, but if a child is coming in occasionally and knows it is a treat – then isn’t it a sweet thing?
And I think, with more single parent families around and partners working away, kids think it only seems normal to fill up the space!
However, like anything with kids, there has to be rules and understandings. I think it is important to make sure the child has a lovely bed of their own and enjoys sleeping in it.
My daughter is eight year’s old and we have two nights when she can sleep with me. However, this changes if she visits during the night regularly on other nights. Nevertheless, I had to train her and make it clear that in my bed we lie straight and respect my space. In other words don’t knee or kick me in the back or the head!
There is nothing more comforting for a child to sleep next to their rock in life. Especially if they are a little unwell or fragile. I remember sleeping on a mattress on the floor in my parent’s room occasionally. However, if it is unacceptable in some homes then that is perfectly fine too. We all have personal ideas and reasons why we do things but just remember to look at the big picture and the fact that it can be a really nice thing.
