I watched a seminar on TED which helped me sleep earlier than normal just after I watched it. If I want a healthy brain – I need to keep making healthy sleep choices for me.
TED provides their audience with speakers on an array of topics. The most recent topic that intrigued me was Russell Foster and what he said about the neuroscience of sleep. He basically said if we don’t get enough sleep our brains suffer. He said sleep deprived people have severe brain functioning issues, memory issues and other complex mental health problems.
He said the best test way to test if you are tired is:
1. if your friends tell you that you look tired
2. you feel lacking in energy all of the time
3. you crave sugary foods and energy drinks
If this is you – then listen to your body – you probably are sleep deprived. Don’t worry about being embarrassed because you are one of millions.
I predict that if all of the sleep deprived people about there aimed for another 1.5 to 3 hours, of more sleep, society would see less violence, less anger, less stress and mood issues, erratic behaviour and other specific mental issues. Some major tragedies have been caused due to sleep deprived people making ill choices. Lets make a difference and you can start by watching the following:
