Researchers thought for years that happy people slept better. However, they then found that happy people, having a not so happy time, actually found it caused more sleep problems for them than for more negative type people who could handle negative emotions better!
Anthony Ong, Ph.D., a positive psychology researcher found unhappy feelings caused more sleep havoc on happy people than it did on those who are naturally more negative.
Ong said the findings have made him change his own behaviour and he now focused on what made him happy, when things were a bit tough, rather than the negative things.
Dogs wag their tail a lot and sleep a lot and I don’t think they are capable of letting things get them down! People don’t have that luxury, however, we can look around at other happy people and see what they are doing!
Happiness is very hard to define and what about the people that fake it until they make it! Happiness can’t be defined easily and just because you sleep a lot or not enough – this does not mean you are not a happy or sad person, just a person who is unique.
Negative events can take people from their normal state of being, but with the right tools, they get back on their personal track again.
Physical activity, being nice to another person, being social and out in nature, are all things that get people back on track to their unique state of being.
When Dr. Brené Brown conducted thousands of interviews to discover what lies at the root of social connection, a thorough analysis of the data revealed what it was: vulnerability. She stated the rewards of vulnerability were immeasurable.
So, people just being themselves and doing what feels good. Don’t let the definition of happy upset you or think you are not because a person who calls themself happy probably defines it that way!
