The sleep team investigates: Why don’t we want people to see the real us? If we are sharing a bed with someone and wearing make-up does this sound alarm bells of insecurity? If you have a massive zit outbreak okay maybe some cover-up cream on the zits, but a full face of make-up? If you are feeling really self-conscious then maybe a light foundation cover – but this can’t continue … can it?
Women wear make-up to the gym and some admit they don’t work as hard because they don’t want to ruin their face!
Make-up has a time and place if it makes you feel good. It can up-lift any outfit and yes guys use it too!
Some people would rather sleep for 10 more minutes than wear make-up and some just put it on in the car. Thankfully, most take make-up off before bed, but yes some put it on! Can you sleep as well – worrying you will get it on the pillow? Night time is meant to be the time to relax, be you, let your hair down and moisturise your face.

I think our make-up dependence does depend on our predecessors – often friends who wear or don’t wear make-up – followed their mother’s path. Or if their mother was not a huge fan – they just put a little on.
I only wear a little make-up and at night I use vitamin E moisturiser and a facial cleanser in the shower. It is very personal how you care for yourself and people develop over time what they prefer. If you do wear make-up to bed for now – hopefully this is just a stage and you will go back to feeling fresh with clean unclogged pore skin.
