There are so many books on thinking and not thinking and everything in between, but how do we know what is best? I am thinking (ironically) that there isn’t one formula and this is why we often think to ourselves: “Why would they think that!”
We have some positive mantras that we repeat in our heads and we watch You Tube clips telling us how to think and be grateful and loving. However, I think the thing is, we think constantly, every second – so when do we get a break from thinking to work out our thinking!
We get a break from work so we can get our head around the new boss and we get a break from the family so we can understand why it takes 1 hour for our toddler to eat rice bubbles and we get a break from the best friend who loves telling us about his or her perfect life, but the mind is constantly here and there, predicting and reasoning and questioning.
Thinking is a word we use so simply: “Oh, I was just thinking.” However, if we really THINK about it, when someone is THINKING, that word is so complex that, the person could be: evaluating, reasoning, questioning, empathising and the list is truly endless!
So, when your mind is doing your head in, literally, the easiest and best way for everyday people, is to sit, close your eyes and listen to your breathing for as long as you can – 1 minute to 1 hour.
