Today, On the first day of his Supreme Court trial, Roger Dean, 37, pleaded guilty to the murders of 11 elderly residents, who died as a result of fires lit at their nursing home.
Dorothy Sterling, 80, and Dorothy Wu, 85, were probably the first to die. Their nurse, Dean, set fire to an empty bed in their Quakers Hill nursing home room on November 18, 2011. According to Crown Documents, as fire fighters battled to contain the first blaze, Dean had started, they had no idea the room of Ms Wu and Ms Sterling was also on fire. Dean was arrested and charged later that evening.
The Court heard, Dean also admitted to causing grievous bodily harm to a further eight residents injured in the blaze. The scene was described by paramedics and fire fighters as one of the worst scenes they had ever come across.
The Court was told that Dean had only been working at the Nursing home for two months, but several complaints about his care standards had been made. The Court also heard Dean destroyed evidence that he had stolen prescription drugs from the home.
Dean stood up in court and softly said “guilty” to the 11 counts of murder.

I remember seeing that guy on the news on the day talking about what a hero he was for helping getting all the residents out! Hope they chuck away the key!
