The message is take your time when going to sleep and don’t rush waking up!
A psychologist at Harvard Medical School, Dr Deidre Barrett said if people want to problem solve they should think of the problem and hold an image of it as they drift off to sleep. She said it might be a good idea to visualise the issue if you can, such as a photo or picture or object that reminds you of the issue.
Dr Barrett said it is also important to lie still and calm when you wake to see if you can feel a particular emotion. She said if people get distracted as soon as they wake, almost half of their dream can be lost. She said in a study of 50 students over a week, half of the students dreamed about the problem and one quarter solved their issue.
And for people who want help dreaming of nice things – there is the Dream:ON app. This was launched in 2012 by psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman and it has been downloaded by half a million people.
So sleeping is not only good for our health, weight loss and so much more, but it can also solve our problems – being tired can be the new happy!!
