If your child came home and said: “Mum my teacher fell asleep at her desk today” I don’t think your comment would be: “Oh that is nice sweet!” This is not something we want to hear, but be careful not to react to your child’s observation on one incident. The context is very important and I think this would be very rare! Your child probably forgot to mention the teacher said they would go to sleep for a peculiar reason and they were pretending!
Falling asleep on the job is really not ideal and some jobs are more dangerous than others! Just looking tired in some jobs would not make others feel safe. Imagine seeing the pilot yawn before flying or a surgeon before an operation! So, I guess some of us have more responsibility with sleep than others. And yes teachers have lots of eyes on them so it is hard for them to get away with too much!
Some jobs require you to sleep on the job – a live in nanny, a carer, truck drivers etc. So, if you find yourself sleeping on the job – it might be time to change jobs – or change something:
Things to look at if you are tired:
1. your diet
2. stress levels
3. exercise levels
4. your relationships – how can you improve yourself
5. look at your bed routine and make some positive changes
If you see someone struggling with being tired. Make sure you are the gentle caring person they need. Appreciate there is a lot going on in their life and something positive said from a friend or work college could be helpful.
