At night, it is dark and this is often why intruders think it is easier not to get caught. So, the best why is to have sensor lights at the front and back of your house and all doors locked, including the giant door at the front of the house locked – the garage door!
Leaving the automatic garage door up is something I see around my neighbourhood often. Unless you are in there, I think the safest thing to do is close it. People seem to think because it is a garage door, it is not like the main door, but there is a door to the main house from the garage door! In summer, I see people leaving the door open to let air in I guess, but the risk is too high for people able to crawl under the door. The biggest problem is people forget they have left it open and go about their business or even go to bed! I have even done it and I don’t make a habit of ever leaving it up. One time I just came in the house and got busy and it wasn’t until hours later that I realised the door was still up!
A very important thing I do every night is, just before bed, check that the garage is locked and all of my car lights are off! I also double check the front door because sometimes it is shut, but not locked. And if you go away for a night remember to tell the other house occupants to double check those things. It is nice to wake up safely and organised for the next day!
There are even solar lights available now so easier to install and power saving and safe!
