“Oh, did I text Babe, I meant BUT, sorry… predictive text!” If only texts were always short and purposeful and clear! Good night texts have to be read in context or serious confusion can set in. If you are in a relationship and your partner calls you mate and you are not in a relationship and a friend calls you babe – look at the text in context. Image source
Does your partner always call or text you mate? – well then that is normal. If a friend texts you during the day or night and calls you babe or darl or cutie or handsome, this might mean something or it might just be how they address friends. If you don’t know the person very well – just hold back until you have more of an idea how they are with language and affection.
If it is quite awkward for you just think of the many reasons people may appear more affectionate than normal:
1. a mistake
2. a joke
3. to show they care
4. they are interested?
5. they just thought it would be nice
If you know the textee well, just remember good night texts are void of any non-verbal cues and therefore the true meanings can be hard to decipher. Try and be patient because thinking too much about a text, that is confusing you, is a time waster and if you text to help with your confusion it may turn into a larger marathon of confusion! Wait until you meet up with the person and make a more informed judgement!
