Early texts are important to any relationship and as we know pictures or emoticons tell a thousand words!
When we send emoticons to someone – the emoticon we see is not always the exact emoticon others receive. It depends on people’s phones and sometimes the emoticons we send are quite differently received and actually send very different emotional feelings.
So, to be sure, spend a few minutes with the person checking emoticon compatibility. Or only send safe ones – the main smiley emoticon!
Some people read good night texts and good morning texts quite seriously and how they view the relationship may depend on the particular text – especially when the relationship is very new. Emoticons can be very positive and sweet and cute, but if it is a bit weird or odd or looks angry, this isn’t cute.
As individuals we already have personal perceptions and this is why text writing is crucial at times. Getting the correct message to someone when we are with them is often hard enough, so texting success is quite difficult to achieve. By success I mean the intended meaning was received by the person. The tricky bit about this is you never really know. You can guess by the person’s reaction, but again this is about personal perception.
So, communication as tricky as it is does not need to be complicated by the wrong emoticon – so let your emoticon count in a positive way and accurately emoticon people!
Gold Price says
An emoticon ( / ɨ ˈ m oʊ t ɨ k ɒ n / ) is a metacommunicative pictorial representation of a facial expression which in the absence of body language and prosody serves to draw a receiver’s attention to the tenor or temper of a sender’s nominal verbal communication, changing and improving its interpretation. It expresses—usually by means of punctuation marks —a person’s feelings or mood and can include numbers and letters, as well. These emoticons are usually flipped sideways. In the most recent years, as social media has become widespread, emoticons have played a significant role in communication through technology. These emoticons offer another range of “tone” and feeling through texting that portrays specific emotions through facial gestures while in the midst of cyber communication.
