The virus that is controlling the world right now: people, the economy and the internet for information.
Thousands worldwide have contracted the disease, but the median age is 56 and mainly affecting adults with chronic health conditions. The treatment has mainly been supportive with most deaths being from people who were already in a weakened physical state and who had other pre-existing conditions.
Adults are much more at risk than children. Similarly, an epidemiologist said adults are 25 times more likely to die from chickenpox than children. Similarly, the seasonal flu death rates in adults are 10 times that of death rates in children.
The main symptoms are a cough, a fever, shortness of breath and in many cases the development of pneumonia.
In Australia, the main frenzy seems to be with panic buying and the main item seems to be toilet paper. Channel 7 News reported that police have had to stop people over buying. Rice and hand sanitiser is also in demand.
The advice is to wash hands and avoid touching your face.
Medical masks are in need as supplies have run out and dentists will shut down in four weeks if masks aren’t available (Channel 7 reports). Many other businesses and schools are starting to shut down.
