About Me
April 2012
I live in Australia’s sunny State. I tutor English and have been for 20 years. I have a 7-year-old daughter, Emma, who is also a lover of reading and language and normal 7-year-old things! I am an ESL (English as a second language) teacher.
I want to share the positives of this life because I think there are too many negative ideas out there! There are also billions of subjects I want to write about..everyday subjects that we all deal with. Writing is what I do when I am happy, sad, confused, bewildered and more!! I have so many friends who are my inspiration and keep me laughing.
Sleeping or not is so fascinating. For me, I embrace the night and this is the time for my ideas to flourish! I am definitely a night owl and I have always been this way. Bed before midnight is a challenge sometimes!
I like to think of sleep in a positive way…and not: “Ohh you look terrible…didn’t you get much sleep?” I just think there are so many great things about being awake! Being awake and asleep incorporates everything mere humans accomplish. Nevertheless, this blog will help me discover all of the realms of being asleep and awake!!!!
A valued reader, Ann, has asked me why I started this blog. Well Ann I live to write and it is how I communicate what is on my busy mind. I have been wanting to blog for a while, but just had to wait until the right theme popped into my head!! One night there was a news story about sleeping and I started commenting to a friend about it and then my friend actually said “You should blog about that”. So my friend and fellow blogger helped me set up my blogging site..it wouldn’t have been possible without his help..thanks Dave… www.safetyrisk.net
June 2012
I thought I would touch base and point out some interesting bits of information I have noticed while writing my blog. Lots of people want to find out about waking up feeling great, how to feel refreshed and the best secret to getting a good sleep without being too focused on the mantra “we must have 8 hours we must!!” However, the media seem to talk a lot about the technical hours of sleep and always assuming people have less than 6 hours – repeatedly! How negative! Nevertheless…go the people…being positive..and enjoying the day and night and making the most out of it!
January 2013
I am loving my blog and I thank everyone for reading and commenting. It is exciting knowing people enjoy reading what I write. Writing for me is very therapeutic and just something I love to do. I hope everyone has a great start to the year.
December 2013
I have recently added my photo to make this blog a little more personal. I am still loving the freedom to write and have the vision of entertaining, helping or guiding others. What is important to us or affects us changes as our lives progress, however, the beauty is we can recall our life savers and share these to others! I hope everyone enjoys the festive season and embraces the happy things in their life. I am going on my traditional family holiday to the beach next week with my partner and his children. And this time we are taking our dog Choco – she is a King Charles Cavalier and will love to holiday with us – I am sure! My daughter is with her Dad this week for the holidays and while part of me can catch up on sleep and rest, part of me wants to do what I can’t when I have my daughter home!!! I aim to enlist balance so all will be well!!! Take care and my New Year pledge is to regularly update the ‘about me’ page for that personal touch to my blog. Thanks, Shaz.
March 2014
Well, we are really into the year now and Easter is just around the corner. Life is as busy as ever for me and everyone else! I heard the other day, something quite profound about being busy, and it was something like we can be busy doing a million things, but are we busy making a positive difference to lives? I have kept that thought with me and it helps me to smile more, say nice things to people, to see things and generally appreciate more things. So you can concentrate on that thought I will leave it here and write again soon. Thanks, Shaz.
June 2014 – My most popular blogs
Just wanting to touch base again and thank everyone for reading and enjoying my blog on sleep. The blog has been running for about 2 years now and I have nearly 1000 posts. I thought I would reveal to readers the five most popular blogs to date: 1. Naughty good night messages to send to your boyfriend. 2. Sex and sleep. 3. Coffee bean thoughts before sleep are powerful. 4. The art of good night sexting. 5. I had the best sex with Roger when he was away. So, it is not surprising to you or me that sex is in 4 of the 5 top blogs! Well, I guess I know what to keep writing about! Thanks readers, Shaz.
September 2014
It seems now is a time of intensity with Australia on high alert in regards to terrorist attacks. The world does seem to be getting a little scary at times. I am not sure if it is just because I blog about sleep, but more and more people are saying to be successful we must sleep as our first priority. I wonder if the people who seem scarier than others are lacking in sleep! The idea is even rubbing off on me as I was always a procrastinator when it came to sleep (and now I am just a sleep procrastinator sometimes!). Thanks, Shaz.
February 2015
I think everyone has settled into 2015 now! I am hoping my blog posts help spark positive change in people’s lives. I am trying to cater for a wide market so not all posts will be relevant to everyone, but they might still be interesting!!!! Thanks readers, Shaz.
June 2015
I have been inspired lately by news and friends. My blog posts are varied to cater for everyone. The majority of my audience is from the United States which is exciting. I recently posted a post about a friend who designs and makes adorable girls’ clothes for the little ones: www.andierosedesigns.com
The photo up the top is new and it is me with my daughter Emma, who is now 11 – Wow!
Sunny Queensland is enduring winter now – but nothing like most places! Take care, Shaz.
October 2015
It seems to be a busy time now as the year starts to wind up! My daughter goes into high school next year so that will be exciting for her and me! Sleep is still important and of course it always will be! In December I will visit Japan for the first time and I am looking forward to visiting some past host students I have had in my home. I think it will be an amazing place to visit. Christmas is an exciting time and I have already purchased a tree skirt (I have wanted one for years!). Keep safe everyone – the news is full of many unpleasant things so everyone needs to keep safe. Shaz
March 2016
Well, this is my first ‘about me’ text for 2016! Japan was amazing and we stayed with a beautiful family – we were so lucky. We didn’t see snow, so maybe a trip to New Zealand for that! My daughter is in high school this year and I completed my ESL qualification at the start of this year. My daughter had her tonsils out 2 weeks ago and I blogged about that so please check it out! Shaz
June 2018
I just blogged about technology and I know it’s been around for a while, but the worrying side effects are surfacing now and I think it’s a bit scary! Of course we all love technology; but its overuse is causing issues. I am still enjoying my blog. I haven’t been writing as much because I guess I have been on Facebook!! No, with English tutoring and ESL teaching and my beautiful daughter and time for myself – life gets crazy at times! Shaz
December 25, 2018
I recently flew from Paris back to Brisbane, Australia and the readjusting took days and I was home alone so I didn’t even have anyone else to help.
It felt like a real process of ensuring my sleep pattern was back to going to bed and waking up at suitable workable hours. As a result I now get 8 hours of sleep every night, but my ability to sleep in has diminished but it’s probably because I can’t stay up as late as I could before! I like the change, but I am working less at the moment and it’s school holidays so when life gets back to normal, I will have to manage things carefully!
My beautiful daughter is spending Christmas in France with a beautiful family we actually met while they were travelling around Australia!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with family and friends – laugh as much as you can! xxx
January 5, 2020
Happy New Year and I wish everyone a safe and happy year. In Australia at the moment we are having horrendous fires and we must pray for everyone involved and pray for the fires to cease. Take care xx

I really love that you are educating more people about the importance of sleep.

As someone that write a lot about sleep and wellbeing I thought you would like to check it out.

I’m wondering if you ever post from guest bloggers on your blog? I’m an insomniac and a dog lover and have written a short post about how they intertwine.

Hi Brittany,
I could if you please email it to me. 😊 Shaz

Hi Zak and Sharyn,
I am new to this website but it really caught my attention, especially this comment! I would like to think we could all work together on something here?
We (Gx Pillow), have invented a new type of pillow, something that has never been done before. We have recently been selling on QVC UK and have had a great response. It really is rewarding to know you have created a product that is genuinely helping people. We have had reviews on QVC and personal emails; from helping people after accidents, neck & back problems to people who are genuinely amazed to how much better they are now sleeping! We created it for my sister who was in a terrible accident and wasn’t sleeping well – and now she’s sleeping beautifully. It’s great to see people benefitting in a similar way.
I would be truly grateful if you could take a moment and check it out. Here’s the QVC link with a video (of my dad), showing the product. http://www.qvcuk.com/GX-Bedding-Suspension-Medium-Pillow.product.806237.html
We would love for you guys to try it out! Please get in touch if so.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Sharyn,
We have just created a super awesome 20,000 word article on sleep at:
https://sleepsugar.com/tips-and-tricks-to-sleep-better/
Could we potentially work with you on a guest post to promote it?
I will try and send you an email as well so you don’t miss it!
Thanks

I’m thrilled to find your blog! Congratulations on being picked as one of 6 Top Sleep Blogs You Should Be Reading. Over the next two weeks I am tweeting and posting on Facebook about sleep and would love to share your valuable info with our audience, but I don’t find an rss address or a twitter account. Could you please send these to me if you have them? Thanks!!! GREAT blogs, would love to share them! You can also join us on Twubs #8HoursANight @aVivoPur

Hi LeAnn, I have a fbk page so maybe you could post something there? Thanks, Sharyn.

Hello,
I would be interested in purchasing advertising space on your sleep blog. I work with two sleep blogs currently, the Sleep Center, http://sleep.galleryfurniture.com/, as well as Sleep Smarter, http://www.sleepsmarter.com/, and I’d like promote them on your blog. We can create the ad graphic ourselves, all we would need is ad space sizing and potential pricing, etc.
We could promote one of the blogs or both, which ever works best for you. We also have a mattress brand we’d be interesting in advertising as well if that’s something you’re interested in.
Please let me know, I look forward to hearing back from you!

So true! I too write a a lot. Writing is so freeing and you can express everything on your mind and every emotion you may be feeling about something. It has helped me release so much, from anger, to happiness, to disappointment, to love. I too have a busy mind and it’s help me to get rid of the overload sometimes. It’s like mind therapy. I’m happy your friend helped you set up this blog, it really is a good one!
Sharyn says

Sometimes I can not sleep.
And the next day I get very tired.
Sharyn says
Yes Mari, this is common among so many. There isn’t a simple answer, but never stop trying to improve because there is so much help out there. Shaz 🙂
