Whatever you do keep it simple
The plan is if you can’t sleep don’t do anything too over the top or you may awaken yourself to be up for hours. Hence, this will interrupt your night and the next day. Some simple things instead of just lying in bed:-
Allow yourself 20 minute intervals to do something low key and then pop back to bed and try to sleep. Some low key things to do may be:
1. Have a cup of tea or a glass of milk if you are peckish.
2. Maybe write a couple of emails.
3. Put a little bit of washing away in a slow manner.
4. Watch a bit of television.
5. Prepare for the morning.
6. Read a novel, magazine or newspaper.
What NOT to do:
1. Stimulate your brain too much surfing the internet.
2. Play computer games.
3. Eat or drink junk food.
4. Start moving around the house doing too many things too fast.
If a child awakes and is having trouble:
1. The first time walk them back to bed and give them a rub on the back for a minute.
2. Next time walk them back to bed and leave.
