I am a pretty positive person, however, sometimes venting is necessary and it helps! I think it helps because it puts the problem out there and makes it real and it doesn’t look so explosive anymore! Venting is defined as talking as a coping mechanism to allow people to rationalize and validate their own fears, concerns ,worries, dreams and hopes.
Sometimes, listening to others and their stressful issues, even when they are at opposite ends of the spectrum to yours, can be a way of making us feel better. This is not because we are thinking sucked in! It is because it makes us realise we all have things that we are dealing with and the sun always rises in the morning, so if we keep trying new solutions, there will be an answer. The answer may be when the child is 15 or when there is something more important to worry about, however, nonetheless, the answer will come!
The baby and toddler years are hard. I hear stories about kids who just want so much attention at night and won’t sleep. Unfortunately there isn’t any easy solutions and let’s face it, parents who are pulling their hair out and eyes, need an easy solution! So, if their best way of coping is venting to every stranger on the train, bus or in the shopping centre – go for it. This may not be one’s option for long though when the responses are not exactly what you were expecting! It’s funny how everyone is an expert with someone else’s problems!!!! Venting on on-line forums about sleep can help and mostly, people are helpful and comforting.
Some houses would be very stressful, day an d night because of the many issues facing families! Sometimes perfect solutions are not at hand so until you are ready to tackle the situation by the book – do whatever you can – within safety realms of course! This might mean locking yourself in another room after you made sure other members were safe!
It is hard to see easy solutions when it is your own issue, but there is one or more and it will come, I promise. In the mean time, just live and breathe and laugh, when you can and appreciate the teeny weeny things!
