We have friends, we have family, we have money, we have a voice, we have success and failure and we have so much and sometimes it is all overwhelming.
It is important to check -in with ourselves at least weekly to see where we are at. Yes, a sit down with ourselves to check-in.
Some do this in a variety of ways and it might not be an actual conversation like we have with others, but their answers are found through their love of gardening, yoga, cycling, cooking, painting, singing etc. Whatever you do, make a point of doing something with yourself.
I think it is impossible for life not to be overwhelming at times, no matter who you are and what stage of life you are in. To others, some people’s life looks basic, easy, but how would anyone, but the person living that life, know.
I explained to my 11-year-old daughter the other day, the ‘grass being greener’ concept and it was interesting that she said, no-one her age says that. I think she thought the concept was a bit bizarre and maybe a bit old-fashioned. Later on I thought, maybe the term is old-fashioned, but the concept is definitely not.
There are perfectionists out there and I often forget that I am probably one of them and sometimes, the balance is harder with this outlook. A friend reminded me tonight that I am a perfectionist and that helped because I forgot. Life gets overwhelming and sometimes we forgot what we know and we forget our basic way of coping.
I think it is important to remember that if we are feeling something, that is okay and it is normal because we are feeling it: ‘It is what it is’. We often want to fight feelings and understand them, but I think sometimes it is all about realising that life is complicated and it takes time and patience to feel the right feeling sometimes.
