The sleep team: Nobody ever feels better with a teeny bit more sleep after hitting the snooze button, but a lot of us do it. Sometimes it feels like torture getting up and we wonder how anyone does it! After hitting the snooze button and falling back to sleep and then re-waking we are in a early, deep, sleep cycle and this can explain why we wake up feeling drowsy and plain horrible. We can make it easier on our bodies if we do a few things:
1. go to bed and wake up at the same time – this keeps our body clock happy
2. get light into the room asap! When you open the curtains on your partner or kids, a part of you, might feel a little cruel, but actually you are helping the waking up process by introducing light quickly! The light naturally tells your body the day is starting.
3. use the alarm effectively and get up immediately and stop the ‘poor me’ talk.
4. get excited about the day
We are trying to be easier on our bodies and minds and also a bonus is by getting up quickly we won’t disrupt the other person if they can sleep more.
