Sleeping in the car
While young drivers are high risk drivers. Experienced drivers are all at risk because of their attitude and their ignorance at times due to driving repetition.
I find it hard to fall asleep as a passenger knowing the risks involved. As the passenger I can also help keep the driver alert.
If you feel the driver needs to have a rest and is becoming fatigued suggest that you need a toilet break. When you stop encourage the driver to eat or drink something. Some drivers are just reluctant to stop and need a little bit of an excuse.
If children sleep in the car make sure their head is supported. Do not let children lie down on the seat while you are driving. Explain to them this is against the law and is not safe.
Driving continually without a break is a risk to yourself and others on the road. I want the Government to re-show their car accident advertisements because people started to acknowledge the serious risks.
I have embedded and example of one of these videos at the start of the post – this is extremely realistic and graphic – please watch it and show it to any young drivers you know but please warn them it is extremely graphic and a very upsetting.
