Sleep and emotions
There is no doubt and I am sure nobody would argue the best way to go to sleep is when you are content and happy. However, let’s face it, this isn’t always going to happen – so sometimes we need to intervene and set ourselves up to be content and happy.
The best thing is to start being more positive half-an-hour before you sleep. Challenge your thoughts and tell yourself being angry in sleep is not going to help tomorrow and happy sleep habits are important so you have a good day every day.
Crying to sleep is going to happen at times in your life so let this happen if you are healing. However, generally we should be able to talk ourselves round and go to sleep being in a happy place.
You know yourself best – so do what makes you feel happy, but be reasonable and practical because the goal is to sleep soundly and contently:
1. think about that wonderful holiday you had
2. think about the wonderful time you had at your friend’s house
3. imagine you are doing your favourite activity
4. think about happy people and mentors
5. imagine all of your worries and concerns and cut them off
