My daughter has a busy life and while I get her to help around the house, I do try and help her if I feel we are more time poor than normal. Until recently she didn’t realise exactly how much I helped.
I got cranky one morning because I let her sleep in a little extra because we had a busy night and when I woke her she only had to eat the breakfast I prepared and get dressed. I feel good about helping where I can – as long as it is appreciated. I feel very disappointed when I go to a lot of trouble and then my daughter decides to waste time.
Sometimes a friendly reminder is needed and other times I need to take away my help so my daughter can see the benefits of appreciating!
So, I help my daughter as much as I can and I teach her to appreciate that help and then I limit the help if it is not being appreciated. When I limit my help I then get to have a bit more sleep, but the lesson is normally taught very quickly!!
