Four sisters in the middle of a bitter divorce
SOMETIMES that is all you can do – especially if an anxious environment has been created for you. Yes I am talking about the four girls who were deported to Italy late last night and their mother left screaming.
The sisters, aged nine to 15, who hold dual Italian-Australian citizenship, travelled to Australia with their mother in 2010 for a one-month holiday and remained here in the Mother’s care. The Italian Father shares custody of the children with the Mother.
Brisbane Family Court Justice, Colin Forrest, yesterday ruled there were insufficient exceptional circumstances to allow the girls to remain in Australia.
Department of Child Safety said discharging the order wouldn’t be fair on other families.
However, Justice Forrest refused to make the order to return the children to Italy until their father gave an undertaking to withdraw any complaint against their mother.
The Mother can choose to return to Italy and their will be no legal ramifications due to her actions. The Mother has not stated her position on this.
I am not doubting the Mother is a caring, devoted Mother, however, what she did was wrong. The Court had ruled in Italy shared custody and the Mother took the girls to Australia. I wouldn’t be okay if my ex-husband took my daughter to another country. Of course I would get her back.
The unfair part is the girls do not have the tools to cope with such stress. Hopefully their Father will provide this for them with professional help.
