Yes the R word – ohhh… just RELAX! If we relaxed effectively when it was appropriate we would function better at other times. Nevertheless, the worst thing you can possibly say to someone who is stressed is – :just relax – wow don’t go there..unless of course you are up for some confrontation!
If someone is stressed you may offer them a sit down, a break with you, some fresh air, or someone to talk to.
Even kids don’t like to be told to calm down – empathise and be considerate.
There are some purposeful calming methods to try, such as: yoga and meditation, holidays, hypnotherapy, exercise – but which one is for you – well you have to try them all. Don’t openly suggest these to someone, but do it in an informative way.
Maybe you need a combination of all or or two or three. Hopefully, if your favourite method is not so healthy (like drinking or smoking), you will try for alternate healthy and relaxing methods most of the time.
