A few years ago, this blog would have been about how to respond politely to a party invitation, however, now it is about: What do I write? Who do I say yes to? Who do I say no to? Am I being too fussy? Is he a player? Is she too old? Is he too hairy?!
I have a lot of friends on RSVP and while I think the experience can be exciting, it is helpful if you have friends to keep you grounded! Keep checking in with friends and they will let you know if you are being realistic and sensible and all those things that would be best when on a dating site!
Of course the aim is to have fun and maybe not take it too seriously. It is just about meeting people and learning about yourself.
Being safe is boring, but you must be and this is another reason why it is good to check in with friends. People basically can write anything about themselves, put any photo up and tell you amazing things. A few ways to ease into it and avoid feeling overwhelmed or destitute is:
1. Send messages for a few days or a week before you start talking on the phone. There is absolutely no rush. If the person seems too pushy then this might be alarm bell number 1!
2. Talk for a couple of weeks on and off on the phone before you meet in a public place.
3. Let a friend/s know what you are doing and what has been said/asked/done.
4. Keep an open mind when you meet and give yourself a chance to chat and get to know the person. I think the first date should be a couple of hours, not the whole day.
5. If you wish to meet the person again, then it is now like any other date!!
I don’t think there is any magic number on how many dates it will take. I think it takes as many as is needed – so just enjoy the ride!
